Here are Luca Marini, Joan Mill and John Zarco’s memories of the first phase of the Honda season, somewhere between satisfaction and anticipation.
As a mid-season motorcycle hits its target, Honda can come up with a better balance sheet in the middle of the season than last year. While Honda has always been behind in the overall standings, its progress is evident. In 20 races, the Japanese manufacturer emerged victorious and finished on the podium. This is something that none of its drivers achieved in the XNUMXth round last year.
Especially since the top 10 appears more and more on this report card. When asked about their performance in the first half of the season, the Honda riders were quite satisfied.
Luca Marini, currently fifteenth in the overall standings, recovers from his injury and regains optimism: “It was a difficult time, but I recovered very well, he confided in the motorcycle website. When I was at home, I trained hard and tried to recover at my best. I feel like I’ve improved a lot since that injury. I’m happy to be here now. ”
For Juan Mir, the first half of the year was full of difficulties. His season has been marked by multiple crashes so far. However, despite his 8 retirements in 12 games, the Spaniard did not give up: The first half of the season was very difficult. There have been a lot of crashes, some are my fault and some are not. I try to learn from those that are my faults, but I can’t learn anything else. I just hope I have the strength to continue fighting as hard as I am now and believe that Honda will bring something to the table that makes me fight.
Zarko was satisfied, but asked for more
The 2020 champion is currently 33rd in the table with 19 points and is looking forward to technical improvement. John Zharco, who truly established himself as the brand’s number one at the beginning of the season, expressed the same opinion.
For his part, the Frenchman is particularly pleased with the performance of his Honda car, but he hopes for better results at the end of the year: I’m really happy. Finished eighth in the tournament. But above all, victory in France, and then second place in England. It’s amazing. I have accumulated a lot of points in these two rounds and have also proven that we have what it takes to fight for the top 10.
Zarko, who finished eighth overall, embodies Honda’s positive momentum and dreams of returning to the front. “We have achieved a lot in the top 10 since the start of the season, he continued. The medium is sometimes even very close to the podium. That’s much better than we expected when we partnered with Honda last year. Now we need Honda to put in more performances and continue to fight for the top 10 and even better.
After 12 Grand Prix, Honda welcomed the last 10 races of the year with the joy of success. The second half of the championship will kick off in Austria on 17/XNUMX. The “flying wing” brand must confirm that the form is picking up and continue to improve.
